Training Programs through One Community Health
One Community Health offers hands on training across our Washington and Oregon clinics. Medical students, dental apprentices, and resident doctors learn through real patient care, paid training, and expert supervision. These programs build skills, support future providers, and strengthen care in our communities.
Residency Program
Our resident doctors have all completed four years of medical school and have chosen to specialize in family medicine. Their continued training consists of three years in Hood River and Portland where they learn to take care of patients of all ages – everything from taking care of pregnant women to delivering babies, caring for newborns, children, and adults, plus providing end-of-life care. At One Community Health, these residents serve as primary care physicians under the supervision of our experienced doctors.
Dental Assistant Program
The Dental Apprenticeship Program includes 2000 hours of paid on the job training and 297 hours of free online training to help you start a dental career. You must be 18, have a high school diploma or GED, apply online, pass a background check, and complete an interview. Everyone who meets these qualifications is encouraged to apply.
Medical Assistant Program
The Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program offers a chance to become a certified Medical Assistant while being paid. The program consists of 2,000 hours of paid on-the-job training with our experienced MA team in Hood River or The Dalles, online training, and the CCMA exam at no cost to participants. Requirements to apply are: Be at least 18 years old, have a High School diploma or GED, be authorized to work in Oregon, and pass a background check. Everyone who meets these qualifications is encouraged to apply.
Medical Students Program via University of Washington
Our Washington sites have served as a Family Medicine Clerkship location for University of Washington medical students since Spring 2015. New students rotate every six weeks, and we provide housing during their stay. Our award winning faculty teach across our White Salmon and Stevenson clinics, and students also work with Dr. Troy Witherrite at Skyline when he performs scopes. Each student has the opportunity to learn from all of our Washington physicians throughout their rotation.
